The PGA TOUR announced that The Sentry won’t be contested in 2026. The Sony Open in Hawaii (held January 12–18) will serve as the opening event of the 2026 PGA TOUR schedule.
On September 16, the TOUR announced that due to ongoing drought conditions on Maui, water conservation requirements, agronomic conditions, and logistical challenges, The Plantation Course at Kapalua would not be able to host The Sentry in 2026. After assessing alternate venues in Hawaii and beyond, the TOUR determined it would not be able to contest The Sentry in 2026 because of logistical challenges—including shipping deadlines, tournament infrastructure, and vendor support.
Sentry shared the following statement on October 22, 2025: “The Sentry is a jewel in the PGA TOUR schedule,” said Stephanie Smith, Chief Marketing and Brand Officer, Chief Golf Partnership Officer at Sentry. “We were determined to find a way to play a signature level event in 2026—one that honored the tournament’s tradition and provided the quality of competition that players and fans have come to expect. Despite the TOUR’s best efforts, it became impossible to do that. Sentry is committed to our long-term relationship with the TOUR—which runs through 2035—and The Sentry’s place as a prominent event. While 2026 will not turn out as we would have liked, we’re optimistic about the future.”

The Sentry tournament has raised $8.2 million for the Maui community since Sentry became the title sponsor in 2018. Additionally, since the 2023 wildfires, we’ve contributed more than $3 million toward relief and recovery efforts. This includes $2 million for the Sentry Mālama Nā Keiki initiative, which provides mental health support to children impacted by the trauma of the fires, and $150,000 to the Pu’u Kukui Watershed Preserve to sustain its critical role as the primary water source for the west side of the island. Since becoming title sponsor of The Sentry on Maui in 2018, we’ve formed strong, year-round relationships with community leaders. They’re best positioned to identify ongoing needs of island residents and distribute the aid appropriately.

One lucky winner will hoist a 35-pound trophy at the conclusion of Sunday’s round. Its features display the shape and color of two quotation marks—inspired by the Sentry logo—and take the form of a whale’s tail breaking through waves. Together, the trophy represents the energy of the island. See all of the work that went into this distinct trophy when it was originally designed in 2018.
