Our involvement on Maui goes beyond our role as title sponsor of The Sentry. As we continue getting to know the people and culture of the island, we’ve aimed to be an engaged community partner year-round. In the process, we’ve built upon meaningful connections and learned more ways to make a difference.
Our charitable giving organization, Sentry Insurance Foundation, started a scholarship program to help students continue receiving higher education on their home island. Our foundation also contributes to Maui United Way, including helping with COVID-19 relief efforts in 2020. In early 2021, we announced an additional COVID-19 relief donation of $250,000 to Maui Food Bank. The money will help the Maui Food Bank purchase food from local businesses, aiding the local economy while addressing food insecurity among local families.
We expanded our scholarship program, Sentry Scholars, to Maui. When fully implemented, the program will award 12 scholarships each year to Maui public high school students who attend the University of Hawai'i and its affiliated Hawai'i community colleges.
In Maui United Way, we found an organization that understands local issues and has knowledge of local non-profit organizations working to improve the quality of life for residents.
We have a long relationship with United Way, and we feel this is a natural extension of what we do on the mainland. By participating in and supporting our local communities, we contribute to a happier, healthier, and better society.
