The Sentry to lead off the PGA TOUR’s 2024 FedExCup Regular Season

The Sentry, formerly known as the Sentry Tournament of Champions, is the season’s first of eight Signature Events.

Kapalua, Maui, Hawaii – The PGA TOUR today announced its 2024 FedExCup Regular Season and FedExCup Playoffs schedule as it returns to a calendar-year for the first time since 2013. As part of the announcement, the TOUR unveiled a new brand name for the season-opening event at The Plantation Course at Kapalua, which will now be called The Sentry.

The Sentry, formerly known as the Sentry Tournament of Champions, is the season’s first of eight Signature Events. The eight Signature Events (referred to as “Designated Events” in 2023) are limited-field tournaments with increased prize money and FedExCup points (700 points to the winner).

As previously announced, The Sentry includes PGA TOUR winners from the previous calendar year as well as the top 50 members from the 2022-23 FedExCup standings, which are those who qualify for the BMW Championship, the second FedExCup Playoffs event. The Sentry will be contested at The Plantation Course at Kapalua from Jan. 4-7.

“This tournament has become one of the most significant on the PGA TOUR. As the first event of the PGA TOUR Regular Season and with an expanded, elite field, it was time to update the name to reflect the evolution and growing importance of the event,” said Pete McPartland, Chairman of the Board, President and CEO of Sentry Insurance. “The Sentry will provide an unforgettable experience for the players and fans while benefitting the Maui community.”

Defending champion of The Sentry, Jon Rahm, currently leads the race for the FedExCup after four victories so far this season, including The American Express, The Genesis Invitational and the Masters Tournament. Rahm will look to make The Sentry his first successful title defense in seven previous attempts on the PGA TOUR. Tickets to The Sentry will be made available in August.

“The 2024 edition brings many great changes as The Sentry becomes the kick-off event for the PGA TOUR’s return to a calendar-year season,” said The Sentry Executive Director Max Novena. “We appreciate the incredible partnership with Sentry and are thankful for the tremendous support from the Maui community and our fans around the world. We’re excited to showcase the TOUR’s best players as they begin their race for the FedExCup.”
